Hanging Lake is a lake in the U.S. State of Colorado. It is located in Glenwood Canyon, about 7 miles (11 km) east of Glenwood Springs, Colorado and is a popular tourist destination. When open, the lake is reached via a trailhead located along the Glenwood Canyon Bike and Pedestrian Path that runs along the north side of I-70 in the bottom of the canyon. The trail follows Dead Horse Creek, a tributary of the Colorado River and ascends some 1,000 feet (300 m) in elevation for 1.6 miles (2.6 km) from the trailhead to the lake.
Hanging Lake is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Colorado. Beginning May 1st, 2019, reservations are needed to access the trailhead to Hanging Lake.
Glenwood Canyon is geologically every bit as fascinating as its more famous North American neighbor, the Grand Canyon. How was the canyon formed? The ancestral Colorado River flowed 2400 feet above its current location more than three million years ago. Inch by inch, it carved through and exposed sedimentary layers not visible from the panorama of Glenwood Springs itself.
This erosion exposed 1700 million years of formations as old as the Precambrian era rocks you see at various points along the highway and bike path in the Canyon.
Glenwood Springs offers many trails and paths.

Glenwood Springs has been welcoming hunters for decades and has all the resources to meet the needs of sportsmen and women coming to town, whether for their first or 15th big game excursion.

The Roaring Fork River in Colorado is classified as both wild trout and Gold Medal water. The Colorado Division of Wildlife manages the river as a wild trout fishing ground in order to produce trout that can grow in the wild under natural conditions. Similarly, the Gold Medal title is designated by the Colorado Wildlife Commission to those waters with the highest-quality aquatic habitat and that provide outstanding angling opportunities for large trout.
