Sunlight Mountain Resort and Glenwood Springs join together in February to celebrate winter fun on the slopes and in town. The weekend extravaganza includes events at Sunlight, a fireworks show and a highly competitive chili cook-off.
Motor-heads descend regularly on Glenwood Springs to compare notes, show off their own and admire other classic cars and bikes. Events that get car-crazed enthusiasts to rev their engines include the MG Car Club Rallye, the Grand River Classic Car & Motorcycle Show, and the Glenwood Springs Ford Classic Car Show.
Glenwood Springs is an outdoor playground, making it a natural location for a little friendly competition. Consider participating in one of these events: the Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race, citizen’s races at Sunlight Mountain Resort, the Tri-Glenwood Triathlon, the Strawberry Shortcut, the Mother’s Day Mile, the MS Walk in Glenwood Canyon, and the Cruise-A-Thong.
Holiday Lighting Ceremonies
Every year, on the day after Thanksgiving, the historic Hotel Colorado ignites the holiday spirit with its over-the-top lighting ceremony, one of the most spectacular such displays on the Western Slope. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park’s Winter on the Mountain also features a holiday lighting display, at the center of which is a giant Christmas tree playing a musical light show!
Tour guides lead visitors by lantern light to Glenwood’s oldest cemetery. There, the ghosts of Glenwood’s past, including Doc Holliday, come to life to tell their stories. Held during the month of Halloween, this fundraiser event hosted by the Frontier Historical Society & Museum is extremely popular and sells out every year.
